Abstract

This is a proposal for a book talk on Racism in the Enacted Curriculum: Agentic Ideas and the Spaces Between. The book explores the work of antiracist educators and the complexities of resisting racism in classrooms. It draws from theoretical frameworks like Karen Barad's agential realism and Charles Peirce's future-cause-oriented theory of agency. The central case study for the book comes from an antiracism assembly held at Valleyview High School in Valleyview, OR. The analysis reveals that anti-Black racism adapts and pushes back on resistance, but antiracism also operates in the spaces between. The book calls for continuous resistance against racism, emphasizing the need for strategic and adaptive efforts by educators.
