Enhancing Practitioner Retention Through the Application of the ABA Clinic Model

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

ABA organizations are currently facing high turnover rates, particularly among front-line practitioners. In 2021, the median turnover rate for Behavior Technicians (BTs) was reported at 65% (Behavioral Health Center of Excellence, 2022). This high turnover disrupts service quality and continuity. Using an Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) approach, the research employed a mixed-methods study to explore key factors that hinder practitioner retention. These factors were identified by Kazemi et al. (2015) and supported by additional literature (Jasa, 2021; Novack & Dixon, 2019; SHRM Institute, 2022; Wine et al., 2020). The aggregated data from the study highlights the influence of ABA clinics on staff retention. Further analysis showed comparisons between various practitioner groups and each of the five key factors affecting retention.
