This study examines how Korean American families across multiple generations address and discuss racial/cultural identities with young children. While the existing studies tend to concentrate on newly arrived Asian immigrant families or Asian American adolescents and college students’ experiences, there is comparatively little research available on Asian American families beyond the 1st generation, as well as young Asian American children. Drawing on theories of Asian American racial/cultural identity (e.g., Kim, 2012), parent ethnic-racial socialization (e.g., Hughes & Chen, 1997), and AsianCrit (e.g. Iftikar & Museus, 2018), this ongoing study analyzes survey data focusing on 1.5-and 2nd-generation Korean American parents with young children. This study provides several implications for teachers, teacher educators, and researchers.
