Abstract

This article analyzes the academic performance of university theater faculty in Chile in the context of current research policies. Through a digital ethnography, it explores how professors navigate tensions between artistic creation and the demands of academic research. Drawing on performance studies and feminist epistemology, the study emphasizes the role of the body in knowledge production and critiques hegemonic research formats that marginalize artistic practices. The findings reveal diverse strategies among faculty, including the use of multiple funding sources and critical resistance to scientific norms. The article argues for the recognition of artistic academic work as a legitimate form of knowledge and highlights the importance of safeguarding the place of the arts within higher education in Latin America.
