Abstract

This mixed methods study examined familiarity, perceptions, and use of AI among undergraduate students enrolled in education courses by collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data. A total of n= 220 participants responded to the survey. Findings indicated that students are moderately familiar with AI and while some students have begun using AI, its adoption for academic purposes remains low. Students generally hold neutral to moderately positive perceptions of AI, though concerns about its role in academic settings persist. Students further along in AI adoption tend to use AI more frequently for educational purposes. The findings underscore the importance of AI training and faculty support in guiding students to use AI tools responsibly and effectively.
