Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 304A

Abstract

This chapter explores the evolution of K-12 educational policy in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the role of education in the transition toward a knowledge-based economy. It examines how public K-12 education has been reformed to align with national priorities. The chapter provides a contextual overview of the Saudi K-12 educational system, including its structure, governance, challenges, and previous reform efforts, laying the groundwork for understanding the current educational landscape. Vision 2030’s transformative approach to education is also explored, focusing on its emphasis on educators’ professional development as a strategy for achieving the national goals. A key aspect of these reforms is the transition toward public-private partnerships within public education, exemplified by initiatives such as the Smou program. This program addresses main issues, such as elementary educators’ preparedness, and illustrates how collaboration between public and private sectors can enhance professional development and improve educational outcomes.
