Recognizing Rohr’s Wisdom Pattern through a Freirean Lens in Negotiating the Zeitgeist of our Times

Abstract

The wisdom pattern of order, disorder, and reorder as described by the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation, Richard Rohr, provides a lens for understanding the historical moment we now find ourselves, while simultaneously realizing that Paulo Freire’s notion of hope and utopia and his dialectical denouncement-announcement dynamic serves as foundational toward action. To that end, this paper argues why social justice workers must possess political clarity, must wisely discern the contemporary zeitgeist, and must recognize that utopian hope is driven by an activism laced in love.
