To get the full benefits of adopting “high-quality instructional materials” (HQIM), districts may need to give teachers specialized professional learning (PL) experiences. This randomized controlled trial examined the impact of a one-year program of such PL in a district that had already adopted HQIM. Preliminary results indicate that, as expected, the PL had a positive impact on teacher self-efficacy for use of the materials and on the frequency of use of the materials. There were no statistically significant impacts on the other four outcome measures tested—which captured the extent to which teachers reported high expectations of all students, and use of culturally responsive teaching practices. The AERA presentation will present full results, including impacts on student achievement.
