This study explores the perceptions of special education teachers and teacher candidates regarding their awareness of the needs of LGBTQ+ students with disabilities, as well as their knowledge to support these students. Utilizing a qualitative design grounded in interpretative phenomenology and intersectionality, participants shared their lived experiences working with students living this intersectional experience. Through thematic analysis, the results of this study contributes to the literature by providing the perspective of special education teachers and teacher candidates to better support LGBTQ+ students with disabilities. Implications for schools and university preparation programs are also discussed.
