‘Is there some sort of a network that exists?”: Examining equity director professional learning in a regional equity network

Abstract

This study represents a collaborative effort with the Lakeside Educational Service District’s (LESD) Local Equity Group (LEG), which offers professional learning to district equity directors (EDs) in 35 school districts located in and around a large metropolitan area in the western United States. Like other local education agencies (LEAs), Lakeside Educational Service District (LESD) has begun to offer equity-oriented professional learning opportunities for EDs in addition to other roles, including principals and educators. Using qualitative methods and theory on communities of practice, we address the following: To what extent does a regional equity network, LEG, support ED’s learning and growth? If applicable, how does LEG learning support EDs' learning and growth?
