Abstract

We studied mathematics teachers’ attention to multilingual learner core practices in their adaptations of the mathematics language routine (MLR) Stronger & Clearer. Our study was organized around mathematics multilingual learner core practices, specially focusing on two frequently observed core practices during our analysis: (1) identify disciplinary language demands and supports for multilingual learners and (2) provide multilingual learners with opportunities for rich language and literacy exposure and practice. Using case study research design, we analyzed teachers’ enactments and discussions of their Stronger & Clearer Studio Day enactments. We share findings from two teachers, highlighting their use of Stronger & Clearer, their adaptations, and their alignment to the core practices.
