In 2024, under contract to the San Diego and Imperial Counties Regional Consortium (SDI RC) in California, WestEd developed a professional development course on “how to teach” for career and technical education faculty joining their colleges from industry. Teachers coming from industry brought technical skills but often lacked teaching expertise and ready access to resources. The proposed session will describe the rationale for the development of a cohorted but asynchronous course, based on the literature and consultation with key informants; the content of the course; and the participation and responses to date. Opportunities for future research are also presented. The course offers an opportunity for easily scaling professional learning in response to a pressing need.
