Abstract

To successfully participate in continuing education (CE) activities, learners need to apply self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies. In this paper, learners’ perceptions of a technology-enhanced personalized SRL intervention (TEPSI) for CE were investigated. Consisting of a goal-setting functionality and a personalized dashboard, this intervention aims to support metacognitive and resource management strategies. We conducted a qualitative interview study (N = 20) using the think-aloud method to gain deeper insights into the benefits and weaknesses of the intervention. Several issues regarding the usability and usefulness of the intervention were identified. Our findings show that TEPSIs are not a miracle cure and may have negative side effects when not implemented properly. The findings provide several implications for designing TEPSIs for CE.
