Abstract

Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping creativity in K–12 education, offering new opportunities for student expression. To guide its responsible use, we conducted a systematic scoping review of 45 studies (2017–2025) following PRISMA guidelines. Findings fall into four categories: (1) creativity assessment using automated scoring; (2) human–AI co-creativity, where students collaborate with GenAI in open-ended tasks; (3) stakeholder perceptions from students, educators, and designers; and (4) creativity enhancement through tools, curricula, and interventions. This review maps current trends, identifies theoretical and ethical gaps, and informs the future design of GenAI tools that support creativity in equitable, transparent, and pedagogically sound ways for K–12 learners.
