“Literacy is Everywhere!” History is Alive in a Place-Based Professional Development on Saipan

Sun, April 12, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: Ground Floor, Gold 2

Abstract

This proposal reports findings from a qualitative study of a place-based professional development program funded by the NEH on the island of Saipan. K-12 educators from across the US gathered to learn about and engage with landmarks on and around Saipan using a place-based community focused approach. The goal of the intensive study was for educators to bring history alive through literacy and connect human experiences in their own educational contexts through experiential learning.
