Abstract

The intergenerational learning process in existing research has not been reported. Intergenerational learning was created in China from family to school and society. Fourteen participants were interviewed, including principals, teachers, parents, grandparents, and grandchildren. The study found that collaborating theorists and practitioners constructed intergenerational learning. Inspired by the theorists, primary school principals guide grandparents and grandchildren to create ‘family intergenerational learning’. Driven by family-school cooperation, the primary school creates ‘school intergenerational learning’ in the classroom. Under the trend of interconnecting educational institutions, the primary schools are being linked with older adult and community schools to create ‘social intergenerational learning’. Moreover, theoretical contributions, practical values, and policy implications are developed to promote family-school-society cooperation and facilitate intergenerational learning.
