Abstract

With the widespread use of technology in home learning, digital home literacy environment (DHLE) is put forward based on the home literacy environment framework. However, its components and how it is shaped remain underexplored. This qualitative study investigated the DHLE among Chinese English learners through semi-structured parent interviews and hybrid thematic analysis. Findings showed that the DHLE comprised digital resources, activities, and parental mediation strategies. Parents’ attitudes, social norms, and perceived competence influenced their intentions to support children’s digital English learning, shaping the DHEL. The study highlighted the importance of parental mediation and offered practical implications for educators and practitioners to consider not only technological tools but also the social and cultural factors influencing digital language learning at home.
