Empowering Migrant Women in Marginalized Communities through Co-Creation: A Generative AI–Supported Participatory Art Education Approach

Abstract

This study investigates how community-based feminist art education can integrate generative AI tools to support Chinese-speaking migrant women in Germany and Austria. Through participatory workshops using text-to-image platforms (e.g., Krea.ai, Kelin AI), participants visualized emotionally complex temporal experiences shaped by migration, gender, and cultural dissonance. The curriculum emphasized collaborative storytelling, prompt literacy, and critical engagement with algorithmic bias. Grounded in participatory action research and informed by Kristeva’s concept of “Women’s Time” and Rosa’s theory of resonance, the project frames AI not as neutral technology, but as a civic pedagogical tool. Findings highlight how generative AI, when critically embedded in community education, can foster epistemic agency, cultural visibility, and feminist learning.
