Better Supporting Contingent, VITAL Faculty: Insights from Previous Delphi Award Winners

Abstract

The Delphi Award was created to document the successful policy and practice changes occurring to support VITAL (visiting, instructor, temporary, adjunct and lecturer) at specific institutions and through consortium, unions, alliances and affiliated organizations (we use “organizations” as an umbrella term for these groups). The purpose of this study is to use a multiple case study approach to identify key insights learned from the awardees about trends in supporting VITAL faculty, specifically related to the change process, change goals, and types of changes made by awardees, in order to offer models of success to other organizations interested in better supporting this crucial core of the academic workforce.
