Qualitative Results from the Inaugural Year of an Academy of Medical Educators

Abstract

Health sciences education is rapidly evolving, driven by the need for new curricula that are focused on the adult learner and increasingly rigorous accreditation mandates. Many institutions have responded by establishing teaching Academies. In the Fall of 2024, New York Medical College launched The Academy of Medical Educators at New York Medical College with an intentional focus on foundational pedagogy, constructivism, scholarship, mentoring and community. Preliminary results suggest that participation in a collaborative, pedagogically-focused Academy had both an uncomfortably-disarming but overwhelmingly-positive impact on faculty.
