Reclaiming Yet Ongoing: A Two Part Phenomenological Study of Chinese Queer Diaspora in the U.S. through a Queer Literacy Workshop Series

Wed, April 8, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: Gold Level, Gold 1

Abstract

This two part phenomenological study aims to explore the rich yet intersectional experiences of Chinese queer diaspora residing in the United States. In the first part of the research, it centers on understanding their sense of Chineseness, queerness, and immigrant identity as a group as well as individuals. By fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment through a queer-themed literacy workshop series, the second part of the study aims to enhance their comprehension of these experiences and impact their understanding of themselves. In addition to addressing questions related to identity, queer theory, race, and justice, this research also delves into the themes of happiness, coming out, intercultural living, and the factors that can improve their quality of life.
