Abstract

This paper explores transnational habitus as a theoretical framework to understand international student mobility (ISM), using literature on Chinese international students as an illustrative example. This framework emphasizes the dynamic nature of habitus in transnational contexts and highlights three key dimensions: (1) beyond binarism, which challenges traditional binary views of identity, (2) changing dispositions, reflecting continuous adaptation, and (3) the construction of a transnational field, recognizing unique struggles and aspirations. This framework offers fresh perspectives on the complexities of ISM and underscores the importance of fostering inclusive educational environments.
