The CLEAR Framework: Enhancing Pre-service Teachers' AI Literacy via GAI Digital Storytelling

Fri, April 10, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigated if the CLEAR framework enhances AI literacy and critical thinking in pre-service teachers using GAI-based digital storytelling. 92 pre-service teachers were divided into an experimental group (CLEAR framework) and a control group (conventional instruction). Mann-Whitney U tests and ANCOVA revealed the CLEAR framework significantly improved digital storytelling quality, AI literacy (use, evaluation, ethics), and critical thinking dispositions compared to conventional methods. Qualitative interview data corroborated these findings. This study validates the CLEAR framework as an effective structured teaching strategy for fostering deep learning and critical human-AI interaction in digital literacy education, expanding constructivist applications in AI-assisted teaching.
