Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

Findings from our recent study found that Women of Color (WOC) navigate a unique set of challenges and barriers in academia. The study focused on (WOC) who received their doctoral degree in educational leadership and currently work as leaders in the field of education. While challenges were reported there were also actions taken that helped them navigate these struggles and thrive in educational leadership positions.
Throughout the process of interviewing women for this study, questions were asked about what challenges WOC face when getting a doctorate degree and as they work in educational leadership positions. Additionally, what is needed to support WOC as they enter and exit doctoral programs? Next steps for this group are explored as well.
