Abstract

To promote success for multilingual learners, it is critical that educators establish mutual and trusting partnerships with families and communities. In this study, we explored educators’ aspirations for multilingual family engagement and examined promising partnership practices educators implemented based on collaborative planning through online professional learning communities. Building upon the educator preparation framework for family and community partnerships, we analyzed participants’ individual responses and reflections together with the group project from each professional learning community. Findings of this study substantiated the educator preparation framework for family and community partnerships and offered additional insights for teacher educators to support preservice and inservice teachers to engage with multilingual families.
