This investigation centers counterstorytelling methodology to explore how students of color demonstrate praxis by involving themselves in cross-racial solidarity movements. In this study of the Race and Resistance department at San Francisco State’s College of Ethnic Studies during the Fall of 2023, I participated in three courses, engaged in 40 semi-structured interviews, and observed student-led organizing efforts to understand how students apply their learning from relational Ethnic Studies courses. While students recognized the academic and psychosocial values about learning about communities of color that differed from their own, they described their takeaways as being about praxis and solidarity. They redefined notions of community and dedicated themselves to sharing lessons learned through informal dialogue to contribute to ongoing social justice movements.
