Abstract

This paper reflects on the methodological contributions of a Feminist Disability Studies coloring book coloring co-created by two scholars of arts education and special education. We reflect on the process and outcome of creating the coloring book and share our learnings on what it means to foreground disabled perspectives, prioritize access, and enact disabled ways of knowing. We assert that our process of co-developing this coloring book and turning the book into a community education and mutual aid process offers methodological and epistemological insights into innovative and transformative ways to do scholarly work by: 1) challenging ableist knowledge hierarchies, 2) demonstrating efforts toward holistic access and community-academia relationship, 3) and engaging in practical actions toward transformative scholarship.
