Abstract

Educational psychology is a complex field with many topics that are important for teachers to understand. However, what gets taught in a preservice teacher educational psychology course can vary widely. We sought to understand what experts in educational psychology who work in teacher preparation see as the most important topics for teachers to understand and how those topics relate to national accreditation standards for educator preparation programs (EPPs). While more in-depth coding is ongoing, preliminary analysis shows little agreement among educational psychologists regarding what should be taught to preservice teachers and moderate alignment with accreditation standards. We propose that understanding how these facets align is important in advocating for the field and inclusion of educational psychology in EPPs.
