Abstract

This study uses data from the Healthy Minds Study (2017–2024) to examine mental health trajectories among four student groups: domestic non‑LGBT, domestic LGBT, international non‑LGBT, and international LGBT. We assessed flourishing, depression (PHQ‑9), and anxiety (GAD‑7) scores over eight years using weighted multiple imputation and regression analyses. Results indicate that international LGBT students report lower depression and anxiety levels than their domestic LGBT peers, while flourishing levels are comparable across groups. These findings challenge the traditional deficit‑oriented minority stress framework and suggest that international LGBT students may benefit from unique protective factors. We recommend integrating positive psychology and intersectionality frameworks in campus mental health interventions to support marginalized student populations.
