Abstract

This study explores the underexamined relationship between forest schools (FS) and climate change (CC) by investigating parental preferences for FS amid environmental challenges. FS offers outdoor education that fosters nature connection and climate resilience. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study surveyed 312 Israeli parents of children aged 3–6 in FS or conventional schools and conducted interviews with 20 FS parents. Findings show FS parents hold stronger environmental attitudes and visit nature more frequently, though no differences emerged in CC concern or behavior. Some parents described transformative effects on their children. The study highlights FS’s potential as a climate-relevant educational model and calls for greater recognition by educators and policymakers of its role in addressing CC.
