Walking and restorying with plants through stitching with preservice teachers

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree D

Abstract

In this presentation we interrogate walking and restorying with plants which I have been exploring more deeply together with youth and students in our teacher education program through the co-creation of a stitching project. By stitching relations with nature through artistic depictions of entangled roots and our histories with flowers and plants of our choosing that are dear to us, we intended to open up learning opportunities to rethink relations with nature, but also engage in the decolonization of epistemologies in science education supportive of a pluriverse where multiple ways of knowing, doing and being with and through nature can co-exist in harmony.
