To address the growing concern of burnout and declining mental health in college student-athletes, this study adds to our understanding of how several psychological constructs relate to well-being and satisfaction. This study employs structural equation modeling with 263 college student-athletes to measure the relationships between elements of psychological fortitude (grit, growth mindset, emotion regulation, and self-care), well-being, and sport satisfaction. The results demonstrate the importance of consistency of interest, growth mindset and self-care in promoting well-being and ultimate satisfaction with the student-athlete experience. These results inform how college and university athletics departments can address the mental health needs of their student-athletes by prioritizing rest, practicing mindfulness, developing health routines, and communicating mental health needs.
