Abstract

In this collaborative self-study, we utilized DisCrit as a framework for interrogating gaps in our understanding of (the intersection between) race and dis/ability and whether our foundations of education course allowed for similar examinations. From an analysis of reflective journals and several DisCrit-informed discussions, we found ourselves unearthing and critiquing ways we have upheld ableist norms and pinpointing missed opportunities for intersectional analyses of race and dis/ability in our course. This study illuminates the promise of self-study in aiding critical reflection and planting seeds for transformative action.
