Abstract

Although there is a demand to translate research into products and services, many institutions of higher education require additional support to answer this call. This study examines grant proposals from 14 Acceleration of Research Translation (ART) awardee institutions and conducted semi-structured interviews to understand their planned changes and common needs for improving research translation (RT). Our findings show that ART institutions’ primary goals include: the development of commercialization skills, the establishment of networks, the utilization of ART ambassadors as RT champions, and the expansion of the university’s reputation in RT. ART institutions require various forms of support to accomplish their goals. Thus, we provide guidance in developing strategies that promote RT initiatives aimed at delivering positive societal benefits.
