Preparing High-Quality Reviews of Mixed Methods Research Manuscripts: Advice for Reviewers

Sat, April 11, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Floor: 5th Floor, Echo Park

Abstract

High-quality peer review of manuscripts for journals and books is critical to rigorous, transparent, and ethical scholarship. However, peer reviewers of mixed methods research have little guidance, which hinders the review and the ultimate manuscript. Guided by the principles of ethics, standards of mixed methods research rigor, and cultural humility, this presentation offers practical guidance for preparing high-quality reviews of mixed methods manuscripts. We will describe some salient problems in peer review regarding ethics, rigor, and cultural humility. We provide practical tips for preparing a high-quality peer review of a mixed methods manuscript organized by stages: deciding to accept the invitation, starting the review, engaging with the manuscript, organizing, writing, and submitting the review.
