Abstract

This case study explored the transitions of international students at a Southeast university, focusing on the role of AI tools in their adaptation to campus and social life in the United States. Data collected from semi-structured interviews with 14 volunteer international students revealed substantial cultural, social, and linguistic challenges coupled with limited institutional support. The study found that AI tools, such as Grammarly and ChatGPT, played a crucial role in helping participants overcome these challenges, improve their academic writing, integrate into campus activities, and enhance their overall academic performance. These findings highlight the need for improved institutional support, cultural sensitivity training, and the potential for integrating AI tools to facilitate smoother transitions and enrich the educational experiences of international students.
