Critical Race Theory as Lineage Work

Abstract

Using the Black feminist concept of inheritance as well as the Critical Race Theory (CRT) concept of imperial scholarly practices, this paper urges CRT scholars in education to more deeply engage with CRT’s legal roots. This paper is a conceptual essay buttressed by a short review of trends in social science research using CRT. It relates to the theme in that it is a call for scholars using CRT to go back to its foundational texts, its history, to enrich their CRT practices.
