Abstract

This paper presents a comparative analysis of the user agreements from five major generative AI platforms—OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and Meta—focusing on their policies for K–12 education. It examines how these platforms define acceptable use, address privacy and academic integrity concerns, and propose governance models for AI in educational settings. The study highlights the ethical and policy challenges posed by the adoption of generative AI, particularly around data privacy and potential misuse. By analyzing age restrictions, data handling, and platform disclaimers, the paper underscores the significant role of platform policies as de facto regulators in education. The findings encourage educators and policymakers to consider these private policies when shaping the responsible use of AI in schools.
