This counter-storytelling methodological study turns towards a collaborative approach of research and meaning in the academic space. The co-authors contextualize their experiences being othered/others in the writing and research process with the support of liberatory social justice methods and theoretical frameworks–DisCrit and Black Womanism Theology. With an emphasis on non-dominant forms of communication such as oral traditions, we explore how love or receiving no love has critically surfaced in the process of research, collaboration and meaning making. We offer an example of how we were able to succumb and overcome the obstacles and self-validate and self-validate, through self-advocacy.
