Abstract

Abstract: It is commonly believed that achieving academic success at a young age leads to greater academic accomplishments in the future. But does this still hold true if these achievements were driven by environmental pressure? We collected data from over 100,000 faculty members across 355 universities in China, with a panel dataset of more than 1.7 million records. Using the Generalized Random Forest algorithm, we analyzed the impact of pressure environments on scientific achievements across four dimensions: publication quantity, quality, sustainability, and connectivity. The results reveal that students who achieved success under pressure perform significantly worse across multiple dimensions of future academic development compared to those in non-pressure environments.
