Enrolling in technical education offers high school students a competitive edge in securing employment opportunities. Students in Utah may earn technical education credits from either technical colleges or three degree-granting institutions. The role of high school technical education enrollment in postsecondary enrollment is explored using data from the Utah System of Higher Education. Logistic regression models revealed that while TE participation is associated with higher postsecondary enrollment, most students pursue degrees rather than certificates. Demographic and geographic factors also affected enrollment patterns. Based on Perna and Thomas’ model of student success, findings indicate that external influences—especially family and school environment—may lead students toward four-year colleges, despite policy efforts to encourage middle-skill careers.
