Abstract

This research report presents a mixed-methods literature review of STEAM education in art education field, analyzing journal articles and academic books from 2010 to 2025. Key findings include: (1) A steady increase in publications, though the amount of literature featuring STEAM cases both within the U.S. and internationally remains limited. (2) Major research themes cover arts integration, STEAM activity design, pedagogical frameworks, and digital tools. (3) Research methodologies primarily involve empirical case studies and exploratory investigations. (4) Pedagogies align closely with the NAEA’s emphasis on diverse, innovative, and problem-solving approaches but show challenges regarding the equitable role of art within STEAM. The report concludes with recommendations, advocating for increased STEAM research, interdisciplinary standards, longitudinal validation studies, and global inquiry.
