Abstract

This study explores the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education research and its influence on global and interdisciplinary collaboration. We examine 599 peer-reviewed articles published between January 2021 and April 2025 in The Internet and Higher Education, British Journal of Educational Technology, and Computers & Education (including C&E: Artificial Intelligence). Findings show that AI-related research is significantly more likely to involve international (χ² = 19.4, p < .001) and interdisciplinary (χ² = 23.8, p < .001) collaboration, especially in BJET and C&E. The most active collaborations involve the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong, with education–computer science as the leading disciplinary pair. AI may be disrupting traditional silos, fostering more inclusive, globally networked research.
