Transformative Learning in Action: Shifting Prospective Primary School Teachers' Perspectives on Professional Competencies

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the transformation of prospective primary school teachers' perspectives towards teaching profession through learning activities designed according to Transformative Learning Theory (TLT). For this purpose, action plans were developed based on TLT to enhance professional competencies in line with a needs analysis for 16 prospective primary school teachers. These teachers initially believed that acquiring professional competencies in primary school teacher was straightforward and achievable through hands-on experience. The study aimed to reveal the transformation in participants' professional perspectives. This action research utilized multiple data collection tools. The findings indicated that the professional perspectives of 15 participants were transformed. Additionally, the research process revealed an interaction between professional competencies and professional perspectives.
