Abstract

This scoping review and bibliometric analysis examined research on equity and social justice in the realm of artificial intelligence in education (AIED). Guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) Extension for Scoping Reviews, we identified 79 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and June 2025 from Scopus and Web of Science. The findings revealed key bibliometric features of the included studies, encompassing sources, authorship, and factorial analysis. We also highlighted conceptual ambiguity, limited measurement tools, as well as practices and policies that can promote equity and social justice in AIED. We concluded with recommendations for future research to guide the development of AIED systems that foster collective thriving.
