Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study examines the rationale, structure, and challenges involved in establishing an academic minor in emergency management at a large public university within the California State University (CSU) system. Grounded in a mixed-methods review of CSU academic policies, course catalogs, and national trends, the study contextualizes the history and evolution of academic minors, focusing on their curricular parameters and documented benefits for students and institutions. Special attention is devoted to the role and prevalence of emergency management minors nationally. This study includes a detailed review of the lone CSU emergency management minor offered to students at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).
