Abstract

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes widely adopted in education, quality teacher AI professional development (AIPD) is essential. We analyzed 59 publicly available K–12 AIPD programs. Guided by the Intelligent‑Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge framework (i‑TPACK), we coded topics, AI tool features, and PD activities. We found that existing PDs emphasized technological-pedagogical and general-technological knowledge, with ethics commonly present, while field-specific content is rare. A quarter of the reviewed PDs included “General AI” modules, but few introduced education‑specific tools like MagicSchool or Khanmigo. Most programs target teacher productivity over student‑facing uses. Hands‑on work is typical, but coaching/expert support and feedback are limited in mostly asynchronous formats. These deficiencies suggest a need for more targeted, interactive AIPD.
