Abstract

This systematic review examines how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is reshaping school effectiveness and improvement in K–12 education. Drawing on 35 peer-reviewed studies published since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, the study maps the emerging applications of GenAI in automating administrative tasks, enhancing data-driven decision-making, and supporting educational planning. It identifies key organizational, technological, and leadership factors influencing GenAI adoption, and highlights both the opportunities and risks for sustainable school improvement. The findings offer a synthesized research agenda and evidence-informed insights to guide school leaders, policymakers, and researchers in leveraging GenAI for improving efficiency, equity, and innovation in school systems.
