This study examines how a CRISPA-inspired Lesson Sketch template helped Indigenous educators design STEM experiences rooted in joy, creativity, and relationality. Conducted during a CIRCLES Alliance workshop at Sitting Bull College, the project utilized Eisner’s Educational Connoisseurship and Criticism to evaluate 24 lesson designs by educators from the Standing Rock, Turtle Mountain, and Fort Berthold Reservations. Shifting away from standards-driven planning, the Lesson Sketch framework encouraged attention to the aesthetic and affective dimensions of teaching. Integrating CRISPA and the 7Rs of Indigenous education, the study illuminates how lesson design can center Indigenous ways of knowing and foster a richer educational experience.
