This study adopts a descriptive case study design to examine the influence of a peer-mentoring program designed for vertical and lateral transfer students at a four-year institution. The study focuses on how the program influences participants’ sense of belonging and post-transfer adjustment. Data was primarily collected through focus group interviews. Additional data sources include pre- and post-surveys, registration forms, and program materials. Guided by relevant theoretical frameworks, preliminary findings revealed three emerging themes: the role of mentors, building confidence, connectedness and sense of belonging. This study offers a comprehensive understanding of the experiences of vertical and lateral transfers, and it calls for further research and policy efforts to support transfer students.
